Yesterday Ava had her very first haircut. We went to Little Locks, a kid's toy store and salon in the Bird Rock area of La Jolla.
I have always been out-of-place in La Jolla. It is a very upscale neighborhood with a lot of snooty people. Bird Rock is a little more forgiving with more families, but when I went to a restaurant/street fair event there a few months ago, I was pretty much the only person there who didn't have plastic surgery or a $2000 handbag.
My daughter is so cute (if I do say so myself), however, I was suddenly feeling very much like a star with a little princess. Ava stole the show in the short time we were there on the streets and inside the store.
I was so surprised with how well Ava did. The cut was very short-lived, the hairdresser was extremely fast, yet accurate and somehow managed not to cut Ava with all of her random jerky movements. Not too much was taken off, but it now looks a lot more evened out and polished, since before it was a big mop top. Ava was all smiles or just plain calm and concentrating except for the very end when she was getting her hair pulled into a little flipped pony on top.
(These videos aren't the best, I took it with my new iPhone 3GS and the quality is kind of meh)
The end (including crying)
I love this one, she looks like a doll.
I love her cut! I've slowly been hacking Bea's hair into a little bob, but it doesn't look nearly as tidy as Ava's hair. I'm wondering if I should call in the pros before I make Bea look like one of those Barbie's that was just a head and shoulders and you were supposed to do her hair and make-up.
